The Shape of Shadows Yet to Come

Well, the evening breeze, hadn’t rustled leaves
In that desert willow yet
And the rising moon was purple as a plum
Saw her silver mare, and her untamed hair
In a far off silhouette
And I felt the shape of shadows yet to come

We danced soft n slow, wind was moaning low
As I lay her in the sand
There beside an empty jug of Cuban rum
And then we made love, never thinking of
Moonlight on her wedding band
As it cast the shape of shadows yet to come

O the sweat was dry and sin was smooth and sweet
Cos the rum was good and passion was strong
So we never saw him in the midnight heat
Though the moon hung low and his shadow was long

Madness in his eye, night wings took the sky
Gun smoke mingled with our ghosts
And the echoes rolled on like a distant drum
Then the sand and dust, seemed to welcome us
Cos they kissed and held us close
Like they knew the shape of shadows yet to come

Now we haunt these dunes, dance beneath the moon
Sometimes our bones make love
By the willow after drinking phantom rum
Only time will tell, whether we’re in hell
Or if judgement from above
Sees us as the shape of shadows yet to come

O the sweat was dry and sin was smooth and sweet
Cos the rum was good and passion was strong…
